Public Works

The Public Works Department is responsible for the design and construction of public facilities and review of private infrastructure; plan review and inspection of building construction; and the operation and maintenance of City buildings, fleet, water, sewer, storm drainage, street, and transportation systems.

The Public Works Department consists of five major divisions; Engineering, Traffic, Building Inspection Services, Utility Planning and Operations.

Public Works Administration, Engineering, Traffic and Building Inspection Services are located at the Civic Center at 200 Old Bernal Avenue in the downtown complex next to the Library and the Police Station.

Office hours for Public Works Administration, Engineering and Traffic are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Hours for Building Inspection Services are Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Mission Statement

The Department of Public Works is committed to protecting public health safety, and preserving and enhancing the quality of life, physical environment and economic well being of the community. This is accomplished through the design and construction of public facilities and review of private infrastructure; plan review and inspection of building construction and the planning, maintenance and operation of City buildings, fleet water, sewer storm drainage, street, and transportation systems.
