Drug and vice investigations are handled by the Special Investigations Unit. A Sergeant and four police Detectives staff the Unit. Three Detectives primarily work narcotics and vice activity while the fourth is assigned to the Alameda County Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement Task Force.
The main concentration of the Unit's activities is in the sale and manufacturing of controlled substances. Drugs are not exclusive to Pleasanton and drug dealers do not follow jurisdictional boundaries when it comes to law enforcement. Many drug dealers in fact do not actually live in the city limits, but their activity affects us. In dealing with this reality the detectives continually work with other local, state and federal law enforcement agencies in their battle against illegal drugs and their impact on Pleasanton Residents. Each of these Detectives is trained as Drug Recognition Experts (D.R.E.'s). They work closely with other units within the Police Department providing expertise in narcotics, intelligence, search warrants, and drug abuse education.
Drugs most abused in Pleasanton are alcohol, marijuana, methamphetamine, GHB, and Ecstasy (MDMA).
Sergeant Barry Mickleburgh is the supervisor of the Special Investigations Unit. He can be reached by calling the Investigations Division phone number at (925) 931-5134 or by email.
The Pleasanton Police Department now offers residents the ability to report suspicious activity related to drug sales or abuse online.
If the incident you are reporting is of an emergency nature or requires immediate attention please contact us at (925) 931-5100 or (925) 931-5122 instead of reporting the incident online.
Online reporting should only be used to report incidents that do not require immediate attention or investigation as the reporting system is not continuously monitored by police personnel.
Your report will be sent directly to the Special Investigations Unit Supervisor for review and assignment. A copy of this report may not be permanently retained by our agency after the incident has been addressed by staff. Your submission of drug related complaints/issues is considered informational and helps the Police Department address reoccurring drug related issues. If you require a formal complaint please contact the Police Department at (925) 931-5100.
***WARNING***
Be advised that intentionally making a false police report is a violation of California law and is subject to both criminal and civil penalties.
