The Bay Area's Best Workplaces for Commuters SM Coalition recognized 164 employers including more than 280,000 employees that qualify for EPA's fourth annual list of the Bay Area's Best Workplaces for Commuters SM in October 2005. The list commends Bay Area employers committed to improving quality of life for employees, while at the same time helping to reduce traffic and air pollution. Commendable Commutes is a partnership between the City of Pleasanton and local employers with 75 or more employees to help reduce peak hour traffic and air pollution through the promotion of transportation alternatives. Less traffic congestion and better air quality contributes to the attraction and retention of employees and customers, and are important for businesses that depend on freeway transport of goods. This program is a win-win for the business and residential community. Services include a citywide Guaranteed Ride Home Program, on-site transportation information visits, Try Transit Program, marketing materials, networking opportunities, local and regional transportation updates, citywide recognition and participation in a bi-annual transportation survey. If your company has 75 or more employees and is interested in improving employees' commutes, contact Lisa Adamos, Economic Development Specialist at (925) 931-5039 to join Commendable Commutes.
Funds for this program are provided by the Bay Area Air Quality Management District's Transportation Fund for Clean Air in cooperation with the City of Pleasanton.
Walking & Bicycling
The flat terrain in Pleasanton and miles of paved bike lanes make it easy to bike or walk to work or school and to bike and walk for healthy exercise. To obtain hiking information on the Pleasanton Ridge, go to http://www.ebparks.org/parks/pleasrig.htm.
Need a Bike Buddy? Novice bicyclists can be matched with experienced bicyclists to help them learn how to commute by bicycle. Cyclists of all levels can be matched for those seeking riding partners. Go to http://rideshare.511.org to find a bike partner.
Insurance for Your Commute - The Alameda County Congestion Management Agency (ACCMA) Guaranteed Ride Home Program does just what it says. It guarantees you a ride home from work when unexpected circumstances arise.
You can feel comfortable taking the bus, train or ferry, carpooling, vanpooling, walking, or bicycling to work, knowing that you will have a ride home in case of illness, family crisis, unscheduled overtime, or a missed rideshare trip. Who Is Eligible?
- Participants and their employers must pre-register in the program. There is no cost to employers or employees to participate.
- Employers must be located in Alameda County and have 100 or more employees or be part of a registered business park.
- Employees must be permanent full-time or permanent part-time employees and live within 100 miles of their worksite.
By providing "insurance" for your commute, we encourage you to leave your car behind, and help reduce traffic and improve air quality in the Bay Area.
NEW! Last year, the ACCMA initiated a pilot program that gave Tri-Valley area (Dublin, Pleasanton, and Livermore) participants the option of taking either a rental car or a taxi. Due to the pilot program's success in giving participants more flexibility and saving the program money, we will be extending the rental car option to program participants throughout Alameda County. This new option should be available to all participants by early 2004. For more information or to register in the program, call the hotline at (510) 433-0320 or visit http://www.grh.accma.ca.gov/grh/index.htm.
